The 2021 Taekwondo Championships for University Students in Shanghai were held on December 4-5 at the SLU's Songjiang campus. The competition was organized by Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, undertaken by Shanghai University Students' Sports Association and Shanghai Lixin University of Accounting and Finance (SLU), and co-organized by Shanghai University Students' Sports Association Taekwondo Branch. There were 14 levels of individual competition for men and women, and team competition for men and women, as well as Poomsae individual, mixed, mixed doubles, Poom/Dan competitions, and taekwondo dance competitions. According to the needs of epidemic prevention and control, the Poomsae and taekwondo dance competitions were transferred from offline to online competitions, and the skill competitions were held on site.
During the two-day competition, more than 200 students from more than 20 colleges and universities in Shanghai came to the site to participate in the skill competition. As the competition undertaker, our university organized the competition in strict accordance with the requirements of epidemic prevention, controlled the gathering of people, optimized the competition process, and guaranteed the orderly competition of each event. Our athletes won the first place in the total score of men's team and the first place in the total score of women's team, and achieved excellent results of 5 gold, 7 silver and 19 bronze. Our taekwondo team was awarded the Team Sportsmanship Award, coach Li Dan won the Coach Sportsmanship Award, and Yang Sunjie won the Athlete Sportsmanship Award.
Mr. Zhao Rongshan, Standing Committee Member of the Party Committee and Vice President of the University, Mr. Ren Kelai, Deputy Secretary General of Shanghai University Students' Sports Association, Mr. Liu Guorong, Secretary General of Shanghai University Students' Sports Association Taekwondo Branch and Dean of School of Physical Education and Health of the University, and Mr. Chen Hao, Director of Taekwondo Program of Shanghai University Students' Sports Association attended the award ceremony. Mr. Zhao Rongshan delivered a speech.
Taekwondo is a traditional sport of our university, which integrates the spirit of taekwondo ofCourtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self Control, Indomitable Spirit into the sports competition. Previously, our university has held seven consecutive Taekwondo Championships for University Students in Shanghai, and as the Director Unit of the Shanghai University Students' Sports Association Taekwondo Branch, it has formed a wide influence in universities in Shanghai, and the level of student competition has improved year by year. This competition is an important event in 2021, in which colleges and universities exchange and interact with each other, and compete with each other to actively promote the popularization and development of taekwondo program in Shanghai area.
