Hosted by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation of China’s Ministry of Education and organized by the School of International Exchange of the Shanghai Lixin University of Accounting and Finance (SLU),the “Chinese Bridge” Online Chinese Language Learning Camp opened on October 19th. The event was attended remotely by Tu Liping, Head of International Office and Dean of School of International Exchange, Yao Jie, Vice Head of International Office and Vice Dean of School of International Exchange, teachers from the Confucius Institute Office and the International Student Affairs Office, and over 140 teachers and students from across 17 countries such as Vietnam, Russia, Denmark and Poland.

In her speech, Tu first of all extended her warm welcome to the teachers and students from across the world for their participation in the camp and expressed her heartfelt thanks to SLU’s partners abroad for their strong support. She then introduced the evolution of the camp and SLU’s story of going international, and expected the students to constantly challenge themselves, learn the Chinese language, obtain a better understanding of the Chinese culture and contribute to the language and cultural exchanges between China and the rest of the world.

The camp lead gave a detailed introduction to the use of a dedicated online learning platform, the curriculum, attendance and assignment requirements, and criteria for completion of learning and evaluation of excellence. The teachers and students had an online tour of the campus and watched the promotional video of SLU for international students. With a duration of eight weeks, the camp catered to Asian and European students by offering a variety of live-streaming and pre-recorded courses, such as the Chinese language class, the Chinese culture class, the Chinese language application class, and various cultural lectures. The successful delivery of the camp would provide new inspiration for SLU’s international education of the Chinese language and its approach to international education in the post-COVID-19 era.
