The English program has a reasonably structured and high-quality team of full-time teachers. All of the seven full-time teachers have a master’s degree, and 43% have a doctoral degree. In the past three years, teachers of the Program have published more than 10 teaching and scientific research papers, 2 monographs and 3 textbooks, presided over 3 projects on talent training, teaching and scientific research at all levels and 1 university-level key project of educational reform, and won a prize for teaching achievements and a second prize for excellent teaching. The teachers are mainly specialized in applied linguistics, translation, economic and trade English, cross-cultural communication and so on.
In terms of talent training, the English program, adapting to the trend of economic and social development in Shanghai, well considers the actual needs of regional talents upon abiding by the National Standard of Teaching Quality of English Undergraduate Majors, strives to cultivate students with solid international vision and humanistic literacy, comprehensive English language skills, cross-cultural communication ability, speculative and innovative ability and autonomous learning ability. The graduates are competent for bilingual translation in enterprises, institutions, party and government organs.
With high employment rate, some of the graduates are employed by Bank of China, Industrial and Commercial Bank, Citibank, Deloitte and other well-known institutions and public security bureau, industry and commerce bureau, schools and other state organs and institutions. In addition, some students are admitted to Stanford University, Peking University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Tongji University, Shanghai Foreign Studies University and other famous Chinese and foreign universities for further study.
