Main Courses of the International Economy and Trade Program

Course 1: InternationalTrade Theory

Content

· This course introduces the basic theories of international trade, and the basic methods and tools of international trade analysis.

· It studies international trade relations, including trade theories and policies

· The main contents can be divided into two broad subfields: the theory of international trade and the policy of international trade.

· International trade analysis focuses primarily on real transactions in international economy. International trade policy analysis focuses on the policy side of international trade.

Expected Outcomes

Students successfully completing this module will

· master the basic theory of international trade as well as the basic analytical methods and tools, be able to use them to properly analyze problems and determine their own policy positions, and have the ability to communicate with or challenge to international competitors or partners;

· grasp some basic knowledge of the international trade, including international trade theory and policy, as well as contemporary international economy;and

· use international trade theory, viewpoints and methods to analyze domestic and world economy issues, and lay a solid theoretical foundation through the course and the practical application.

Course 2: International Trade in Practice

Content

· Concepts of international trade, the basic principles,andthe knowledge and skills of relevant subjects (such as international trade law and practice, import and export practice, international finance, international transport and insurance, international arbitration,etc.)

· Case studies of international trade practice (for example international trade terms, international shipment insurance,and international shipment), and intensive training on real application and practical skills

· Simulation exercises of international trade procedure to help the students understand relevant international trade methodology and practical operation.

Expected Outcomes

Students successfully completing this course will

· master the basic principles of international trade operation;

· grasp the international trade law and rules;

· grasp the skills of business negotiation, and be able to establish international sales contract;

· understand the major procedure of international trade; and

· know how to implement a company’s intention in the real business world, and comply with international trade rules in the process of import and export business operations.

Course 3: International Economics

Content

· This course introduces the basic theories of international economics as well as the basic methods and tools of international economics analysis.

· It studies international economic relations, including trade theories and policies, exchange rates, and macroeconomics and macroeconomic policies.

· The main contents can be divided into two broad subfields: the study of international trade and the study of international money.

· International trade analysis focuses primarily on the real transactions in the international economy. International monetary analysis focuses on the monetary side of the international economy.

Expected Outcomes

Students successfully completing this module will

· master the basic theory of international economics as well as the basic analytical methods and tools, be able to use them to properly analyze problems and determine their own policy positions, and have the ability to communicate with or challenge to international competitors or partners;

· master some basic knowledge of the international economy, including international finance theory and policy, as well as contemporary international economy; and

· use international economic theory, viewpoint and method to analyze domestic and world economy issues, and lay a solid theoretical foundation through the course and practical application.

Course 4: MNE Operation & Management

Content

· General principles of MNE management

· Development and modes of FDI: greenfield & M&A

· Global strategies of MNE

· Strategic alliance of MNE

· Technology transfer of MNE

· Case studies of FDI in China and Chinese MNE around the world

· Case studies of China’s Belt and Road strategy

Expected Outcomes

Students successfully completing this module will:

· understand the basic problems and principles of MNE management;

· apply the basic knowledge of MNE to their future work; and

· further understand China’s policy of Reform and Opening up and the Belt and Road initiative.

Course 5: International Business Negotiation

Content

· Introduce the definition of negotiation, the key elements of a negotiation process, and the features of negotiation.

· Analyze how people use negotiation to manage interdependent situations and achieving their respective goals.

· Define how negotiation fits within the broader perspective of processes for managing a conflict.

· Gain an understanding of alternative dispute resolution system used by organizations.

Expected Outcomes

Students successfully completing this module will be able to:

· understand negotiation problems and possible solutions, and comprehend necessary tools for economic analysis and relevant social conflicts within which economic policies are applied;

· apply relevant theories and practice skills to the work of international trade; and

· understand the potential and limits and of negotiation.

Course 6: International Trade in Service

Content

· We first introduce prior knowledge that the course will be used in the basic principles of economics and analysis, and tools are introduced to reduce the learning difficulties.

· New developments related to the theoretical and practical studies in this field are introduced to stimulate students’ interest. References and case studies are provided for students’ further reading, and exercises and case studies are arranged to encourage discussion and review.

· In this course, we first introduce the framework of trade in service, and then illustrate the analyzing trade in services, which has three chapters. The last is about the sectoral modal analysis, which includes 6 chapters.

· Integrate the methods of lectures, case studies, and group discussion with multimedia teaching resources, and try to explain the abstract theories with case studies.

Expected Outcomes

Students successfully completing this module will

· master the basic principles of economics, understand the laws in international service trade, and know how to generalize the laws in international services trade;

· find and analyze relevant cases with related theories , and learn to apply knowledge; and

· based on the combination of theory studies and practical training and the emphasis on the organizational structure of the internal logic, have the ability to integrate theory with practice.

Course 7: Import and Export Settlement

Content

· Introduce the contents of international trade settlement and payment methods.

· Analyze how people use payment methods to complete cross-board settlement.

· Analyze how people finance the international trade to facilitate the trade.

· Gain an understanding of main bills used in international trade.

Expected Outcomes

Students successfully completing this module will

· understand the concept and contents of international settlement;

· understand the trade payment methods and bills;

· know the international clearing systems;

· apply the theories to the practice; and

· apply the international trade settlement system.

Course 8: Cross-border E-commerce

Content

· This course is an application-oriented course with the ultimate goal of improving students' practical application ability under the digital background.

· The professional abilities and professional qualities involved in the course cover international trade, business English, international logistics, e-commerce, computer, business administration and marketing.

· The course closely follows the cutting-edge technology of modern cross-border electronic commerce, and trains high-level professionals with good innovative and entrepreneurial spirit and international vision.

Expected Outcomes

Students successfully completing this module will

· master the basic theory of cross-border electronic commerce, and be familiar with the mainstream cross-border electronic commerce platforms;

· master the basic process and related basic business skills of cross-border electronic commerce, and be able to carry out business procedures and handle business procedures in cross-border electronic commerce business links; and

· start a business, and develop the market in cross-border electronic commerce.

Course 9: Cross-border E-commerce

· As an application-oriented course, it has the ultimate goal of improving students’ practical application ability under the digital background.

· The professional abilities and qualities involved in the course cover international trade, business English, international logistics, e-commerce, computer, business administration and marketing.
