During this year’s Kolding Culture Night, IBACI together with five exchange students offered its visitors a closer look at Chinese performed and traditional arts. Located right in the heart of the Kolding old town - just outside the St. Nikolai church, Chinese culture corner was decorated with bright red lanterns and two wooden craft tables that welcomed both young and grown to engage in various activities.
Participating in Kolding’s Culture night for the fourth time, IBACI had prepared a musical programme blending both traditional and modern tunes. One of the exchange students Du Chen performed a lyrical solo piece “On the Riverside of Yili” with traditional instrument guzheng. Another number “A Girl Fetching Water” was played with hulusi - a type of mellow sounding flute and done by IBACI member (intern) Wang Xia. Visitors also had a chance to listen to popular Chinese songs such as “Flourishing Flower” and “Liang Liang” performed by students Wei Xin and Zhou Xinyi and appreciate traditional Chinese clothes during display show followed by a graceful taiji performance.
As the performing parts were finished, visitors were invited to take part in different activities themselves. The front tables were dedicated to experience the art of Calligraphy and taste different varieties of Chinese tea. Daniel, a student from Aalborg university gave a thorough step by step display of brewing and pouring tea, their characteristics and manners. For the youngest participants of Culture night, IBACI had prepared traditional children’s game “Catch Happiness”. The lucky ones had received small souvenir gifts such as little panda plushies, lucky charms, chopsticks and decorated bookmarks. Whole time of the event, guests were welcomed to try wearing traditional apparel - from Tang dynasty dresses, head accessories to festive jackets, this was a merry moment especially enjoyed by families and friend groups.
