On December 2, the Fourth Council of the Confucius Classroom of the International Business Academy (IBA) and SLU was successfully held. Present at the meeting were Tang Haiyan, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Committee and President of SLU; Gu Xiaomin, Vice President; Niels Egelund, President of IBA; related principals of the International Office and the School of International Exchange; and members of the Council from both sides. The meeting was presided by Gu Xiaomin.

At the meeting, Tang Haiyan warmly welcomed the delegation led by Niels Egelund, and thanked IBA for its continued substantial support to the teaching and operations of the Confucius Classroom. According to Tang Haiyan, since its co-founding three years ago (2015), the Confucius Classroom has made remarkable achievements in Chinese language promotion, cultural communication, business exchange and many other fields, and has been highly affirmed by the Office of Chinese Language Council International/the Confucius Institute Headquarters, thanks to the joint efforts of both sides. After it is upgraded to the level of a Confucius Institute, our university will continue to support its daily work. It is our belief that, under the joint efforts of both sides, the Confucius Institute of IBA will make greater achievements in the fields of Chinese language teaching and Chinese culture promotion, and develop into a Confucius Institute with obvious specialty advantages and prominent business features.

The meeting supplemented new members to the Council. After voting, the meeting supplemented Gu Xiaomin as Chinese President of the Council, and Han Mei and Xu Xiaoqing as Chinese members of the Council.

The meeting also listened to and reviewed the report submitted by Ildikó Antal, foreign principal of the Confucius Classroom of IBA, about the main work and budget overview of 2018, and working plans for 2019 and budget plans for 2019 submitted by Guo Huijun, Chinese principal of the Confucius Classroom. After that, the Council also had full discussion and heated brainstorming about the future development and pending problems of the Confucius Institute after upgrading, and reached consensus about how to accelerate the development of featured courses, improve the connotations of Chinese culture activities, cooperatively compile business textbooks, launch regional business alliance forums, conduct logo design, etc.

According to Niels Egelund, president of IBA, the remarkable achievements made by the Confucius Classroom in the three years since its co-founding have no doubt proved SLU to be a trustworthy and ideal partner. He expressed his belief that, under the joint efforts of all the members and the perfect cooperation of the two sides, the Confucius Institute of IBA will further bring its bridging role into play, better promote diversified exchanges and cooperation between China and Denmark, and make greater contributions to the two universities and to the two countries.
